Awards at the 60th Berlinale

AWARDS AT THE 60TH BERLINALE

SON OF BABYLON , a co-production between Iraq/The Netherlands/UK/France/Palestine is awarded with the Peace Film Award and the Amnesty International Film Prize (ex aequo).
SON OF BABYLON is the second feature film by Mohamed Al-Daradji, following AHLAAM. Produced by Isabelle Stead (UK) & Atia Al-Daradji (Iraq) and co-produced by HUMAN FILM NL, a Rotterdam-based Dutch film company that was established in 2005. The film's world sales agent is Roissy Films (FR) and its Arab world distributor is Sunnyland ART (Egypt).

SON OF BABYLON have exposed to the world Iraq's hidden horrors as Dutch/Iraqi filmmaker Mohamed Al-Daradji takes his audience on a journey through Iraq in 2003. Saddam Hussein has fallen and on hearing the news that prisoners of war have been found alive in the South, Ahmed, a young boy and his grandmother, Um-Ibrahim, set out to uncover the fate of the boy's father, one of the many soldiers who never returned home after the 1991 Gulf War. From the mountains of the north to the southern sands of Babylon, as his grandmother struggles to accept an awful truth, Ahmed retraces the footsteps of a father he never knew.

Romanian director Adrian Sitaru has won the DAAD Short Film Award at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival for his short film COLIVIA / THE CAGE. A prize that is awarded to the most artistically distinctive avant-garde film. Director Sitaru will use the prize, which comes with a three-months scholarship for the director and financial support for a new project, to further develop his feature entitled DOMESTIC.

The short COLIVIA / THE CAGE is a co-production between the Romanian 4Proof Film and Kaliber Film from the Netherlands. The film is part of the feature film DOMESTIC which is currently in development.

COLIVIA / THE CAGE is a short film about the relationship between a father and his son. When Mihaes's little boy brings home a sick dove this raises new conflicts between them, but also a possible reconciliation.
