THIS IS MY PICTURE WHEN I WAS DEAD by Palestinian filmmaker Mahmoud al Massad (RECYCLE), living in The Netherlands, is the first feature-length documentary of KeyDocs, the new production company founded by Hanneke Niens and Hans de Wolf of KeyFilm and Janneke Doolaard, former Head of Documentaries at Egmond Film & Television (a.o. DIARY OF A TIMES SQUARE THIEF, BANKING THE UNBANKED, EVERYTHING HAS A REASON).

KeyDocs thrives on years of experience of its founders, their vast network and knowledge of feature films and documentaries for national and international markets. They aim to develop and produce a slate of films that combines relevant subjects and themes with an original visual style. In addition, KeyDocs wants to co-operate with Dutch broadcasters producing a wide range of shorter documentaries aimed at a television audience.

THIS IS MY PICTURE WHEN I WAS DEAD tells the incredible life story of Bashir Meraish who, at 4 years old, was the victim of the assassination of his father, a top PLO lieutenant, in 1983. Father and son are declared dead but when they arrive at the hospital Bashir turns out to be still alive.

Now, 26 years later, Bashir is a citizen of the world, living in Jordan and one of the most important political cartoonists of his country. Mixing documentary style filmmaking with fiction, animation and archive material, Bashir embarks on a journey to his past. Images and memories of his father and an open-minded attitude towards his own life in modern Amman, make THIS IS MY PICTURE WHEN I WAS DEAD a creative and inevitable search for the roots of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

Director/writer Mahmoud al Massad's previous work includes the critically acclaimed documentary RECYCLE (2007) which won the Cinema in Motion Award at International Film Festival of San Sebastiàn 2007 and the Cinematography Award at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

THIS IS MY PICTURE WHEN I WAS DEAD is a co-production between KeyDocs en iSee Film, Dutch broadcaster VPRO and ITVS in the United States. With the support of the Dutch Film Fund, CoBO Fund, the Royal Film Commission Jordan, Sundance and the Dubai Film Festival. Benelux distributor: A-film.

KeyDocs was established in 2009 by Hanneke Niens and Hans de Wolf of KeyFilm and Janneke Doolaard, former head of Documentaries at Egmond Film & Television, later Eyeworks Film & TV Drama.

KeyFilm was established in 2008 by two of The Netherlands top producers Hanneke Niens & Hans de Wolf.
Hanneke Niens was co-founder, producer and managing director of IDTV Film (1999-2008). Hans de Wolf was co-founder, producer and Head of development of Egmond Film and TV, formerly Bergen. Their experience combines over 25 years of (inter)national production more than 30 feature films (amongst them Oscar winner ANTONIA'S LINE and Oscar nominee TWIN SISTERS) and numerous television films, drama series, documentaries, dance films and shorts.
