Dutch Doc The One All Alone at Venice 2009

Dutch documentary The One All Alone selected by Venice International Film Festival

The One All Alone by Frank Scheffer has been selected by the renowned Venice International Film Festival for the Orizonte Competition. The festival will take place from September 2-12, 2009.

The One All Alone is an expedition to the life and work of the French - American composer Edgard Varèse (1883-1965), a visionary composer, one of the first composers to look for a way to use other sounds than the defined tone altitudes in his music. In this documentary Scheffer unveils the mystery behind the man he admires so much, an alchemist in sound.

Scheffer's previous documentary films include Zoetrope People (1982), a documentary on Francis Ford Coppola and his studio with Wim Wenders, Tom Waits, Vittorio Storraro and others, as well as documentaries on the Dalai Lama and various socio - cultural subjects. He collaborated with John Cage upon the conceptual film Chessfilmnoise (1988) and made the film Conducting Mahler (1996), a documentary overview of the great composers of the 20th century. At this moment Scheffer is still working on the final part of his Frank Zappa documentary trilogy.

The One All Alone is produced by Kasander Film in co-production with Dutch broadcaster NPS. This documentary has been financially supported by The Dutch Film Fund, The Rotterdam Media Fund, CoBO Fund en the Mediafund.

Kasander Film is an international operating film production company, founded by Kees Kasander with the aim to produce European crossover productions. Kasander is especially known for his long collaboration with Director Peter Greenaway. Kasander's last production, Fish Tank directed by Andrea Arnold, premiered at the Cannes film festival 2009 and was awarded the Jury prize.
