Diamond Film Award in record time for A Woman Goes to the Doctor – a million tickets sold
Dutch feature A Woman Goes to the Doctor, directed by Reinout Oerlemans and produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama, has reached another major milestone. Within seven weeks of its theatrical release (November 26, 2009), the film received a Diamond Film Award for over a million tickets sold. Never before has a Dutch feature reached the Diamond status within such a short time.
The Golden, Platinum and Diamond Film Awards have been presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prizes are intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold after a film's release determines which prize is awarded. The Golden Film is awarded to a Dutch feature that has drawn in more than 100.000 visitors. A Platinum Film is awarded when 400.000 tickets are sold and a Diamond Film Award is presented after a million tickets have been sold.
A Woman Goes to the Doctor, starring star actresses Carice van Houten and Anna Drijver and actor Barry Atsma, is based on the bestseller ‘Komt een vrouw bij de dokter’ by Dutch author Kluun, in which a man in the prime of life faces his wife’s terminal illness. The film is a raw, moving and shameless ode to love.
A Woman Goes to the Doctor is produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama in collaboration with Inspire Pictures. Benelux Film Distributors is overseeing the distribution of the film, which is currently running in 125 theatres across the Netherlands.
