Can Go Through Skin selected for New Directors/New Films NY
Can Go Through Skin by first-time feature director Esther Rots is selected to screen in New York at New Directors/New Films, presented by The Museum of Modern Art and The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
New Directors/New Films is one of the premier international showcases for the work of emerging filmmakers from around the world. The festival has introduced many talented directors who have become major figures in world cinema, including Chantal Akerman, Pedro Almodóvar, Kelly Reichardt, Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, Wim Wenders and Wong Kar Wai.
Dutch director Esther Rots can be considered an important Dutch film talent. Her debut film Can Go Through Skin premiered during the last edition of the International Film Festival in Berlin (5 – 15 February 2009), where the film was part of the "Forum" program. Previously, Esther Rots’ short films I Sprout (2003) and Play With Me (2001) were selected for the Golden Palm competition for short films at the International Film Festival in Cannes. Both short films screened in New York as well, during the New York Film Festival.
Can Go Through Skin is a psychological drama with Dutch actress Rifka Lodeizen in the leading role of Marieke, a young woman whose carefree life in the city suddenly ends when her boyfriend decides to break up and she becomes the victim of an insane attack in her own house. Desperately, Marieke leaves the city to find some peace at the Dutch countryside, but the memories of the attack are not leaving her alone.
The 38th edition of New Directors/New Films will take place from March 25 – April 5, 2009 at the MoMA and The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York.
