Dutch feature The Silent Army at Cannes 2009

The Dutch feature film The Silent Army has officially been selected as part of the 62nd edition of the Cannes International Film Festival. The film will be screened in the section ‘Un Certain Regard’.

“Your biggest dream as a filmmaker is a beautiful movie. Then you dream about Oscars and Cannes. That this movie which was so important and so intense for me to make, receives such a follow up, is quite unbelievable. As well as receiving the opportunity to show this film at one of the largest possible international platforms you could wish for to bring the story about child soldiers under people’s attention”, says director Jean van de Velde.

The Cannes Film Festival is the largest film festival in the world. The Silent Army is one of the forty films chosen by the festival from a range of more than 5000 films from all over the world to screen at ´Un Certain Regard´, a program which aims to recognize talent and to promote innovative and remarkable movies.

The Silent Army, written and directed by Jean van de Velde (All Stars, Leak), produced by The Entertainment Group Films with in the main roles Marco Borsato, Andrew Kintu, Abby Mukiibi Nkaaga, Thekla Reuten, Siebe Schoneveld and Ricky Koole.

Holland Film’s Claudia Landsberger: "We are very proud of the filmmakers and extremely pleased that the program committee of the Cannes Film Festival responded so positively to this film. For the Dutch film industry as a whole this is very important".
