Dutch student films awarded at Premiers Plans

BINGO and STAY AWAY awarded in Angers

At the film festival Premiers Plan in Angers, France, the short fiction films BINGO and STAY, AWAY both received an award. BINGO by Timur Ismailov was awarded the CINECOURTS AWARD - CINE CINEMA in the category for European Student Films. Part of the prize is purchase and broadcasting of the film by the Cinecourts program of Cine Cinema. STAY, AWAY by Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito won the Grand Jury Prize in the same category. The prize consists of 1 500 € offered by the SNCF, creation of a master copy of the film for television and a nomination for the European Film Awards 2010. The festival took place from January 22 - 31, 2010.

Premiers Plans selected as many as six students film productions from the Netherlands. From the Netherlands Film and Television Academy (NFTA) three graduation films participated in the student film competition (Competition des films d'école): BINGO, STAY, AWAY FROM ME and WES by directed Peter Hoogenboom. The programme ‘Figures libres’ showed the short documentary TIME WITHIN TIME by Menno Otten, which is a NFTA production as well.

The animated shorts FORGOTTEN BIRDS by Linde Faas and NOTEBOOK by Evelien Löhbeck were selected for ‘Plans animés’, the animated film programme in Angers. Both films are graduation productions of the Academy St. Joost in Breda.

Finally, the fascinating animated short film RED-END AND THE SEEMINGLY SYMBIOTIC SOCIETY by Robin Noorda and Bethany Forest, produced by Rocketta Film, was selected to participate in the competition program of European short films ‘Competition courts métrages des Européens’ and won the Audience Award (Prix du Public).
