IDA Nomination for Diary of a Times Square Thief

The documentary Diary of a Times Square Thief by Dutch director Klaas Bense, produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama, has been nominated for the prestigious International Documentary Association (IDA) Documentary Awards 2009 in Los Angeles. IDA Award winner of 2008 was Man on Wire by James Marsh.

After its premiere in November 2008 Diary of a Times Square Thief screened at many international film festivals, including HotDocs (Canada), Brooklyn International Film Festival (USA) and the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht. Earlier this month Diary of a Times Square Thief won a Golden Panda Award in the category "Most Innovative Documentary Film" at the Sichuan TV Festival in Chengdu, China (November 6 – 9, 2009) and a Golden Stone – worth € 10.000 – at the SCENECS Film Festival in Amersfoort.

In Diary of a Times Square Thief Klaas Bense is looking for the author of a mysterious diary that he bought on Ebay. The diary shows how the ambitious writer slips and fails, the final pages are cut out with a knife. Klaas Bense portrays people who might have known the writer and who can bring clarity about his ultimate fate. At the same time Diary of a Times Square Thief shows the famous Times Square neighbourhood during the 1980’s as a nasty ‘urban jungle’.

The IDA Award Ceremony will take place on December 4th 2009
