Robert de Hoog nominated for Emmy
Dutch actor Robert de Hoog (20) is nominated for an International Emmy Award in the category Best Performing Actor for his role in the film Skin. The award ceremony will take place on November 23, 2009 in New York.
Based on true events and set in 1979, Skin is the tragic story of a boy who, in trying to break free from life with a father traumatized by the Holocaust, is led into the emerging skin-head youth culture and the neo-Nazi revival.
Skin is the first feature length movie by Hanro Smitsman (2007 Berlin International Film Festival Golden Bear winning director for Best Short Film with Contact / Raak, produced by IJswater Films). Skin is also the debut of Robert de Hoog, at this moment studying at the Amsterdam School for Drama.
In 2008 Robert de Hoog was the winner of the Golden Calf, the Dutch Grand Prix of the Netherlands Film Festival for the impressive way he put down SKIN’s main character Frankie. Additionally, Skin was honoured with the MovieSquad Award of the youth jury of the Netherlands Film Festival 2008. The film has been selected for several North American and European Film Festivals.
Skin is produced by IJswater Films in co-production with Dutch Public Broadcaster HUMAN and Kasander Film, supported by CoBO Fund, NPO and Rotterdam Film Fund. Skin is theatrically released in the Netherlands and on DVD.
Robert de Hoog is the 3rd actor from The Netherlands nominated for an Emmy Award in the category Best Performing Actor / Actress in a short period. In 2007 actor Pierre Bokma won an Emmy Award for his role in the The Chosen and in 2006 actress Maryam Hassouni was crowned best actress for her role in the terrorist drama Sacrifices.
