Special Mention for The Silent Army

During the Monaco Charity Film Festival Andrew Kintu and Mieke Lawino received a Diploma of Merit for their Outstanding Performance Achievement in the feature film The Silent Army by Jean van de Velde.

The Monaco Charity Film Festival is a yearly Charity Event held in Monaco for the benefit of the poor children around the world. Two Dutch feature productions were selected by the festival this year. SING FOR DAFUR by Johan Kramer took part in the section Discovery First Feature (out of competition). THE SILENT ARMY by Jean van de Velde was selected for the World Cinema Competition.

In THE SILENT ARMY Child soldiers in Africa are at the fore in this tale of a white restaurant owner in an African town bordering a conflict zone. When his son’s African friend Abu is abducted, he sets out to find the boy and walks right into a training camp exploiting children like Abu.

THE SILENT ARMY screened last year at the Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard. Many international screenings followed, including a special screening of the film by UNESCO in Paris and by the United Nations in New York.
