Two shorts in competition at Clermont-Ferrand

Bingo and Born and Raised selected for International Competition Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand

The Dutch short fiction films Bingo and Born and Raised are selected to compete in the International Competition of Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. The festival will take place from January 29 to February 6, 2010 in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival is one of the most important short film festivals in the world, with three competitions, panoramas and retrospectives and more than 3000 film professionals attending the Short Film Market every year.

The animated films Pivot and Paul and the Dragon, both produced by il Luster Productions, and Magic Show, produced by Cineventura, are selected for Clermont-Ferrand’s Children Programme. Zombie 1 by Richard Raaphorst and R.I.P. by Jan Doense will take part in the "Zombies, vampires and other undead" programme.

Bingo, directed by Timur Ismailov, written by Timur Ismailov and Bastiaan Tichler and produced by the Netherlands Film and Television Academy (NFTA), tells the story of a young gypsy from Moldova who comes to the Netherlands in search of a better fate. His dream: building a house in his home country.

In a short period of time Bingo received many awards, including the Pathé Tuschinski Award for Best Dutch Graduation Film during the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht, the ArtKino Best Director Award at the All-Russian Festival of Short Auteur Films, The Best Film award at Scenecs International Film Festival in Amersfoort, the Grand-Prix – Alter-Native at the International Festival of Short Films in Tîrgu–Mureş, Romania, a Special Mention of the jury of the Sleepwalkers International Student and Short Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia and the prize for Best Short at the prestigious Gijón International Film Festival for Young People.

Born and Raised (Geboren en getogen) by Eelko Ferwerda, produced by Waanzee, is a humorous short about Elsa and Bo who are expecting their first baby. Bo composes a song for his child that he does not call a song but a ‘sound painting’. Born and Raised premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht.

In February 2009 the short film Succes by Diederik Ebbinge won Clermont-Ferrand’s Prix du Rire.
