Winter in Wartime on Golden Globe Longlist
Golden Globes 2010: Best Foreign Language Film Longlist
A record of 69 foreign language films are in the running for the 2010 Golden Globes, Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced. From the Netherlands the feature film Winter in Wartime by Martin Koolhoven is listed.
Winter in Wartime is also the Dutch Academy Award Submission for Best Foreign Language Film. On February 2, 2010, the nominations for the Best Foreign Language Film Award will be announced. The Oscars will be awarded on March 7, 2010.
Winter in Wartime is based on the best seller and much awarded novel ‘Oorlogswinter’ by former Dutch politician Jan Terlouw. The story is set during the last cold winter of the Second World War in the Netherlands. Suddenly 14-year-old Michiel becomes responsible for the care of a British pilot. This turns out to be more dangerous than he could ever imagine.
Winter in Wartime is produced by Isabella Films (Els Vandevorst, The South) and Fu Works (San fu Maltha, Black Book) in co-production with Prime Time (Antonino Lombardo).
Unlike the Oscars the Golden Globes are a competition between films, not countries. Among the films on the longlist are Pedro Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces, A Prophet by Jacques Audiard and The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke.
The Golden Globes are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Nominations for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards will be announced at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.
Hosted by Ricky Gervais, the 2010 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 17, 2010.
